Situated in the Wat Gate district, east of the Old City and the Mae Ping River, is the teak wood resort of 137 Pillars House, Chiang Mai. Built in 1889 as part of the East Borneo Company headquarters and once owned by Louis Leonowens, son of Anna, the historic Thai architecture has been carefully restored to preserve its 19th century origins and exudes a warm, luxurious and relaxing ambiance.
Choose from one of the 30 luxurious century-old suites, each of which features high ceilings, an en-suite dressing room with a walk-in closet, an en-suite bathroom with a Victorian bathtub and an outdoor living space with hand-crafted furniture overlooking the tropical gardens. There are five different styles of suites that range in size and bed styles: the Rajah Brooke Suite, the East Borneo Suite, the D. F. Macfie Suite, the William Bain Terrace Suite and the Louis Leonowens Pool Suite, the largest suite with its own private swimming pool.
