YOGYAKARTA
Your flight lands you in Yogyakarta on the Indonesian island of Java. You’ll be met at the airport and taken to Plataran Borobudur which sits amidst the teak forests, volcanic peaks and Menorah Hills of central Java. From your hotel, you’ll have a fine view of the iconic Borobudur Temple, the largest Buddhist temple in the world and a must-visit for any traveller to Indonesia.
A city tour will show you stunning attractions like the Royal Palace, but there’s also impressive shrines, bustling handicraft markets and delicious Javanese street food to discover. You could take an angong – or bicycle – ride to nearby villages to immerse yourself in the local culture, or learn how to prepare a delicious Balinese meal with a cookery class.
On your last day you’ll take a day trip tp Prambanan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Hindu temple compound dating back to the 9th century.
Stay: Three nights in an Executive Pool Villa at Plataran Borobudur – including breakfast
UBUD
This morning you’ll board a flight to Bali. Upon arrival you’ll drive through sumptuous scenery to the cultural capital of the island – Ubud. Even the outskirts of this astonishing city are picturesque; comprising tier after tier of lush rice paddies marching off into the blue distance.
The town itself features meticulously carved temples with lotus pools and decorative dragons – not to mention a centuries-old market place, surrounded by handicraft shops, galleries and silversmith workshops. The nightlife here is vivid, with traditional dancing, fine restaurants and colourful ceremonies. During your stay you’ll enjoy a tour of the surrounding countryside, taking a closer look at its shrines and temples, plus a trip to the food market where you can sample a range of local delicacies. Don’t miss out on an early morning hike up Mount Batur to be rewarded by a truly sensational sunrise.
Stay: Three nights in a Terrace Room at COMO Uma Ubud – including breakfast
SEMINYAK
Now you have time to luxuriate on one of the glorious volcanic sanded beaches for which Indonesia is famed. You’ll transfer to the coastal resort of Seminyak where you’ll be staying on the white sands of The Samaya. As well as a soft sanded beach, the waters here are warm, calm and perfect for swimming.
When you’re not lounging by the resort’s ocean-facing swimming pool, you can stroll along the golden sands, take a Balinese cooking class or browse the colourful boutiques lining Seminyak’s main street. Surfing is another popular activity, as well as yoga classes and bike tours of the surrounding countryside.
