AUTHENTIC AMERINDIAN LIFESTYLE
The best way to understand a country and discover its hidden natural treasures? Live with local people in their village, and let them show you their wildlife and forest.
Whether you’re being welcomed to the village by singing children, or slipping almost silently along the river in a canoe, on the lookout for giant otters and the elusive jaguar, you will be experiencing the authentic Amerindian lifestyle.
A REAL MAKUSHI COMMUNITY
Surama Village is a real Makushi community gathered into a traditional village and dedicated to sustainable eco-tourism; ensuring that the wonders you see as you explore the untouched rainforest and savannah are preserved for others to enjoy in the future.
And what wonders they are. Four different species of indigenous monkeys. Over 500 different varieties of noisy, spectacular – or rare and secretive – birds have been recorded here, 72 of them endemic to the Guyanan Shield. And then there are the giant anacondas, tapir, river otters, jaguar and capybara.
