BEYOND BREATHTAKING
America’s third national park was designated over a century ago but was created over geological epochs when glaciers further eroded the valley of the Merced river, creating the incredible 3,000 foot granite cliffs that enclose the valley. In the words of the Scottish conservationist John Muir, who campaigned for its preservation, ‘no temple made with hands can compare.’
Within its 1,200 square miles, Yosemite also showcases amazing waterfalls, wildflowers in the meadows which carpet the valley floor, giant sequoia trees and El Capitan, the park’s tallest peak. Aside from hiking along several miles of well signposted trails, visitors can explore by bike or by guided open top tram tours. There’s also a free shuttle bus operating along the valley.
