ABOUT THE ITINERARY
The Niagara Falls, of course. But your Best of the East tour will also include some equally famous, and involving destinations.
Like the buzzing city of Toronto with its waterfront and vibrant downtown area. Like the natural wonders of Lake Ontario and Algonquin Park. Like the capital city of Ottawa, the Laurentians, the French-inspired Quebec City and Montreal.
DESIGNED BY SPECIALISTS
Bear in mind, these are just a starting point as all holidays are customised to the specific requirements of our guests. Whether you prefer a different style of accommodation, a greater focus on a particular interest or to go to a different destination all together, every itinerary is created individually around your preferences.
TORONTO
Wherever you look in Toronto you’re presented with a spectacle. The harbour front, for example, with its chic restaurants and waterside bars. The Toronto Islands, the soaring CN Tower – one of the world’s largest free-standing structures – the Skydome and Ontario Place. Then there’s the downtown area, featuring the world class Royal Ontario Museum, the Art Gallery of Ontario and the Ontario Science Centre.
Stay: Two nights in the Ritz Carlton with city view, room only
NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE
The world famous Hornblower (previously known as the Maid of the Mist) on the Canadian side. The Hornblower takes you into the thunderous clouds of the Niagara Falls, to the edge of the 167 foot high wall of crashing water. You can also see the falls from above, from the Skylon Tower, or visit Casino Niagara and the Butterfly Conservatory before touring the well-preserved 19th century town of Niagara on the Lake.
Stay: One night in the Pillar and Post Inn, room only
ALGONQUIN PROVINCIAL PARK
Head for Algonquin Park, but take some time out to visit Marie Among the Hurons – a historic depiction of a 17th century fortress – and the wonderful Muskokas Lake region with its dramatic granite outcrops and choice of over 1600 freshwater lakes. Hike through the wilderness of Algonquin Park, observing the wildlife and canoeing along its tranquil waterways.
Stay: Two nights at Deerhurst Resort in a Bayshore room, room only
OTTAWA
Immerse yourself in the culture of Ottawa, from the impressive Parliament Buildings overlooking the mighty Ottawa River to the National War Museum in Confederation Square. Then there are must-see places like the National Arts Centre, the Canadian Museum of History, Sparks Street Mall and the By Ward Market crammed with cafés, craft shops, farmers’ stalls, restaurants and clubs. The Ottawa Locks in the Rideau Canal are also easily accessible.
Stay: Two nights in the Fairmont Chateau Laurier, room only
MONT TREMBLANT
Set off for the European-style resort of Mont Tremblant, reckoned to be the jewel of the Laurentians Range. But on the way take the opportunity to see more wildlife in Montebello’s Omega Park and black bears in the nearby Kenauk Reserve. At the resort you can experience kayaking, horse riding, rafting, helicopter tours, hiking, ATV rides and spa days.
Stay: Two nights in the Quintessence Hotel, room only
TADOUSSAC
Prepare to meet the giants of the sea as your journey takes you to Tadoussac, where you will be staying in a beautiful hotel overlooking the bay and rugged Saguenay Fjord. A whale watching cruise, aboard a Zodiac boat, will take you along the St. Lawrence River to observe whales, seals and an array of seabirds that frequent the mouth of the Saguenay Fjord. A truly mesmerising experience.
Stay: Two nights in a quad room at Hotel Tadoussac – room only
QUÉBEC CITY
Give yourself plenty of time to explore the cobbled streets, artisan shops, museums, quaint cafés, 17th century buildings and the fortified city walls of the old city of Quebec and you’ll understand why it is an acclaimed UNESCO World Heritage Site. Discover the Plains of Abraham and the atmospheric Chateau Frontenac.
Stay: Two nights in Auberge St Antoine, room only
MONTREAL
Even the route into Montreal is picturesque if you follow the St Lawrence River through forests, rich farmland and tiny villages. And Montreal itself will not disappoint. This cosmopolitan city presents you with the majestic Notre Dame Basilica surrounded by the old city, quiet residential and financial districts, the French Quarter and McGill University. Not to mention some of the finest shopping in North America. Take walking or biking tours, and climb to the observation point on Mount Royal for unrivalled views.
