ABOUT THE ITINERARY
You begin in the lesser-known Tarangire National Park, a world of acacia forest and gently rolling savannah where you’ll enjoy both game drives and guided walks along the Tarangire River. From here you fly to the Ngorongoro Crater, a geological wonder known for its tremendous diversity of fauna and flora, before continuing to the legendary Serengeti. Here, traditional mobile camps move seasonally to keep up with the advancing herds of the annual wildebeest migration.
A few days relaxation on the magical island of Zanzibar, with its beautiful beaches and excellent diving, provides the perfect end to your holiday.
DESIGNED BY SPECIALISTS
Bear in mind, these are just a starting point as all holidays are customised to the specific requirements of our guests. Whether you prefer a different style of accommodation, a greater focus on a particular interest or to go to a different destination all together, every itinerary is created individually around your preferences.
ARUSHA – TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK
Arriving in Arusha, you will be privately transferred to your safari camp with a secluded riverside setting in the heart of Tarangire National Park.
You will find yourself well situated for discovering this enchanting natural wilderness and its impressive concentration of wildlife. Expert guides will lead you on exciting game drives, as well as insightful walks along the Tarangire River, for up-close encounters with elephants, buffalo, lion and more unusual species like the fringe-eared oryx and long-necked gerenuk. After-dark excursions offer you the opportunity to discover some of the area’s more elusive nocturnal creatures, while keen birders can keep their eyes peeled for over 500 different species.
Stay: Two nights at Kuro Tarangire – full board
NGORONGORO CRATER
Leaving Tarangire behind, you now make your way to one of Africa’s Seven Natural Wonders – enjoying a game drive through Lake Manyara National Park en route. Formed by the collapse of a giant volcano, the Ngorongoro Crater is a UNESCO-listed geological landmark and magnificent wildlife haven alike.
At Entamanu Ngorongoro, perched on the very rim of the crater, you’ll be able to head out just after dawn and well before the crowds to experience this dramatic landscape of rolling highlands and sweeping grassland. As well as game drives into the crater, bringing you encounters with flamingos, rhinos, wildebeest and a whole parade of predators, you’ll be able to explore the surrounding highlands on foot with a local Maasai scout, unveiling the area’s smaller species and plants. Don’t miss a visit to the neighbouring Maasai village to get a deeper insight into the local way of life.
Stay: Two nights at Entamanu Ngorongoro – full board
SERENGETI
The safari portion of your holiday culminates in the Serengeti, Tanzania’s oldest national park and setting for the Great Wildebeest Migration. Here you will be staying in a traditional mobile safari camp that moves its position every few weeks to keep up with, and get as close as possible to, the action of this awe-inspiring natural event.
Even out of the migration season the Serengeti supports a thriving population of big cats and buffalo, as well as elephants, giraffe, hartebeest and impala. Alongside expert guides, you’ll be able to spot some of the hundreds of species of birds on display, as well as reptiles like agama lizards and smaller mammals like rock hyraxes.
Stay: Two nights at Serengeti Safari Camp – full board
ZANZIBAR
You now board a flight to neighbouring Zanzibar. Framed by coconut trees on one of the island’s most beautiful bays, the intimate Pongwe Beach Hotel provides the perfect setting for some much-deserved post-safari R&R.
The nearby Mnemba Atoll allures with its wonderful snorkelling and diving opportunities, but you can also take a traditional dhow out on a game fishing expedition or simply soak up the sun by the pool or on the soft sandy beach. Jeeps and scooters are available for island exploration, whilst the hotel’s chefs prepare exquisite seafood dishes sourced from the finest ingredients from around the island.
Stay: Five nights in a sea view suite at Pongwe Beach Hotel – full board
