ABOUT THE ITINERARY
The itinerary kicks off with the Victoria Falls – one of the most majestic sights in all of Africa. It continues to the South Luangwa, where expert guides will lead you on thrilling excursions in search of giraffes, crocodiles, lions, elephants and hundreds of unique birds. Walking safaris are the order of the day, but you’ll also have day and night game drives at your doorstep.
On day eight, you’ll swap the drama of the bush for the quiet shores of Lake Malawi – a sparkling expanse framed by lowland forest and mountain peaks. Your accommodation is a serene lodge located on the larger of the lake’s two islands, allowing you to enjoy majestic views across the water from the comfort of your own room.
DESIGNED BY SPECIALISTS
Bear in mind, these are just a starting point as all holidays are customised to the specific requirements of our guests. Whether you prefer a different style of accommodation, a greater focus on a particular interest or to go to a different destination all together, every itinerary is created individually around your preferences.
VICTORIA FALLS
Upon arrival in Livingstone, you will be met and transferred to Tongabezi Lodge where you will find yourself just upstream from the thundering Victoria Falls. Stretching across the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, this epic waterfall is not only a World Heritage Site but one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. Which is easy to comprehend once you set eyes on the mile-long string of cascades plunging across the cliff face, causing immense clouds of spray that rise up to 400m.
Romantically set on the banks of the Zambezi River, Tongabezi is the perfect base for exploring both the falls and its surrounds. Sunrise and sunset river cruises, bird walks and white water rafting are all on offer, but if you’re looking for something extra special for your holiday, why not opt for a helicopter flight over the falls – one of the most thrilling ways to see the cascades.
Stay: Three nights in a Double Cottage at Tongabezi Lodge – fully inclusive
SOUTH LUANGWA
Leaving the Victoria Falls behind, today you will transfer to your camp in the Nsefu Sector of South Luangwa.
The South Luangwa National Park stands between the Luangwa River and the end of Africa’s Great Rift Valley, and is reputedly one of the least spoiled wilderness areas on the continent; a wildlife sanctuary stretching over 9000 sq km. A typical safari here will present you with mobs of hippos, large numbers of wild elephants, herds of buffalo and families of zebras – naturally stalked by an array of predators. During your game drives and bush walks, your expert guides will take you to bird watching hotspots and point out lion prides half-hidden in the shadows beneath spreading trees. They’ll also offer invaluable insights into the park’s smaller creatures and indigenous plants.
Stay: Four nights in a Luxury Tent at Shawa Luangwa Camp – fully inclusive
LAKE MALAWI
After a series of wildlife adventures, it’s now time to jet off for some well-earned rest and relaxation. Flying into Likoma Island, you will be met and escorted to your private island resort overlooking the crystal-clear waters of Lake Malawi. Panoramic views, private terraces and direct access to the water ensure a wonderfully laidback experience.
Explorer David Livingstone described it as ‘The Lake of Stars’, and Lake Malawi’s scenic beauty continues to captivate travellers to this very day. From your lodge, you’ll have the perfect panoramic view of the lake’s glistening surface and surrounding beach. After dark, the clear night sky is lit with countless bright stars that reflect beautifully in the lake’s deep waters.
If you’re still feeling active, walking or biking around the island is an excellent way to soak up the scenery and meet the friendly locals. The balmy waters around the lodge are perfect for swimming and snorkelling. Water skiing, kite-surfing, tube riding and fishing trips complete the menu of activities on offer.
Stay: Four nights in a Standard Room at Kaya Mawa – fully inclusive
