ABOUT THE ITINERARY
DESIGNED BY SPECIALISTS
Bear in mind, these are just a starting point as all holidays are customised to the specific requirements of our guests. Whether you prefer a different style of accommodation, a greater focus on a particular interest or to go to a different destination all together, every itinerary is created individually around your preferences.
VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK
Arrive in Kigali where you will make a road transfer to Volcanoes National Park, or Parc National des Volcans. The three-hour journey passes through beautiful terraced hillsides, a scene typical of Rwanda’s landscapes. You’ll arrive at Virunga Lodge, a luxury eco-lodge overlooking the shimmering lakes of Ruhondo and Bulera. The Virunga Volcanoes provide an awe-inspiring backdrop.
The next day you will experience the highlight of a visit to Rwanda – gorilla trekking. Hiking through the light mountain forest on the slopes of the Virungas can be tough, but getting to observe mountain gorillas at close range is well worth the effort. As you walk, you should also keep your eyes peeled for golden monkeys.
During your stay there will be time for visits to the Dian Fossey memorial and walks to pretty lakeside villages.
Stay: Three nights at Virunga Lodge – full board
NYUNGWE FOREST
Your next stop is the mystical forest of Nyungwe, the largest expanse of mountain rainforest on the continent. Your accommodation is a luxury lodge set on a working tea plantation on the edge of the national park.
The Nyungwe Forest is incredibly diverse, supporting 275 species of bird and 75 different mammals including various species of primates. One of the most popular activities in the area is chimpanzee trekking, but you’ll also have a chance to spot black and white colobus monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys and colourful birds like the giant hornbill, great blue turaco and red-breasted sparrow hawk. Other activities include walks to waterfalls, mountain biking, kayaking and interactions with the local community.
Stay: Three nights at One&Only Nyungwe House – full board
KIGALI
On day eight you’ll make a road transfer to Kigali where you’ll be spending one night at the grand Mille Collines Hotel, complete with stunning views over the city’s hills. You’ll have time for a city tour before boarding your flight the following day.
