ABOUT THE ITINERARY
Between December and March, the Svalbard Archipelago and the town of Longyearbyen is plunged into darkness. The perfect time to experience the extraordinary natural phenonium of the Northern Lights as they dance across the sky.
Spend four days at a luxury boutique hotel on the outskirts of Longyearbyen and experience the best that this area has to offer in the winter, including dog sledding, exploring mesmeric ice caves and of course searching for the Aurora Borealis above.
You will also get to enjoy some of the finest food the Arctic has to offer, including a delicious champagne tasting and fourteen course tasting menu at one of the Arctics finest restaurants.
For those with more time on their hands, an extension to Tromso or Oslo is also possible.
DESIGNED BY SPECIALISTS
Bear in mind, these are just a starting point as all holidays are customised to the specific requirements of our guests. Whether you prefer a different style of accommodation, a greater focus on a particular interest or to go to a different destination all together, every itinerary is created individually around your preferences.
ARRIVAL IN LONGYEARBYEN
Fly from Oslo to Longyearbyen, the world’s northernmost settlement and the largest town in the Svalbard archipelago.
You will be driven to your boutique hotel on the outskirts of the town, perched on a hill with wonderful views of the town.
After check-in you’ll enjoy a champagne tasting at the hotel, followed by a delicious dinner with wine pairing.
Stay: Three nights at Funken Lodge including breakfast.
DOG SLEDDING
Today you will experience a traditional past time on the archipelago, dog sledding. In winter the activity is on a specially built sled and takes place under the star-filled skies. Lean back into the sled and let the dogs take you into the wilderness, you may be joined by the dancing northern lights or glittering moonlight. At the end of the excursion you’ll even get to meet cutest litter of puppies!
SEARCHING FOR NORTHERN LIGHTS
Winter is the best time to see the northern lights and today you will head out on electric snowmobiles searching for the perfect spot to experience them. Electric snowmobiles are a quiet and clean way to navigate the snow drifts and allow you to enjoy the experience in relative silence. The terrain is mostly flat which makes it an excellent excursion for all ages (minimum 8) and abilities.
After hopefully witnessing the magic of the Aurora Borealis, you will experience another natural masterpiece, one of Svalbard’s beautiful ice caves. With your guide you will venture into the cave in a snowcat – a comfortable and fun way to explore the cave and traverse up and over the moraine.
After discovering this unique world of ice and snow you’ll return to town, where you will enjoy one of the Arctic’s premier dining experiences at Huset restaurant. A 14-course tasting menu paired with wines and created with ingredients from the region.
