Honeymoon Guide

Your honeymoon is like no other holiday. Marking the start of your life together as a married couple, it’s likely to be the most romantic of all your trips. An exciting journey of unforgettable moments; memories you’ll make that last a lifetime.

Planning such an important milestone can be a daunting task. That’s why we have put together this season-by-season guide, designed to help you discover which destinations best suit your dates as well as what to do once you arrive.

Seasons:

Spring
Springtime in Guatemala and Belize, Morocco and Mexico offers seasonal perfection for you as newlyweds, with options for action-packed or relaxing getaways. Unwind together on a tropical beach, marvel at extraordinary ancient ruins or experience an underwater snorkelling adventure. It’s a season guaranteed to tick both of your wish lists.

Summer
June, July and August are the best months to experience the diverse pleasures of four, very different, destinations: the culture and glamorous beach resorts of Sri Lanka, the tropical paradise of Bora Bora, the wildlife in Tanzania and the exotic island of Zanzibar. Not forgetting impeccable luxury in all four.

Autumn
Embark on your new life together by taking in unforgettable new sights on an autumnal adventure in South Africa and Mauritius, the Caribbean or Oman. Start your married life by discovering the exhilarating natural world, with thrilling walks and exotic wildlife. Enhance your perfect days with romantic evenings dining under the stars.

Winter
A winter wedding doesn’t mean an icy honeymoon. In fact, December and January are the ideal months to uncover the wonders of Brazil, Southern India, Laos, Cambodia and Thailand. All captivating in their own way, these destinations allow you to throw yourselves, hand-in-hand, into romantic and wildly different experiences.

Destinations:

Morocco
A honeymoon here will take you from the endless, empty desert to the majestic Atlas Mountains and teeming bazaars of the imperial cities. Morocco offers you a plethora of romantic experiences, from camping under the stars in a Bedouin-style tent to discovering Marrakech – and the surrounding Berber hamlets – by hot-air balloon.

Guatemala & Belize
Still wonderfully untouched by mass tourism, Guatemala and Belize offer an irresistible mix of beautiful beaches, kaleidoscopic marine life and archaeological sites shrouded by thick vegetation. Imagine watching the sunset from a rooftop suite in Antigua; private excursions to Tikal and thrilling riding safaris. Or simply soaking up the splendour of a world-class hotel.

Mexico
In Mexico you can spend one day lazing on a sun-kissed beach and the next exploring ancient Aztec and Mayan civilisations. For couples with a passion for wildlife, we recommend heading to the Sian Ka’an Reserve whilst on the Mayan Riviera for an off the beaten track wildlife fix. Here you can travel by private boat in search of manatees, caiman and colourful birds.

Tanzania & Zanzibar
A winning combination of adventure and relaxation, bush and beach escapes are perennial favourites amongst honeymooners. We love ending a safari in the Serengeti with the idyllic, so-called ‘Spice Islands’ of Zanzibar. Whilst on safari don’t miss out on a night under the stars ‘fly camping’ – a magical experience you won’t soon forget.

Sri Lanka
This tropical teardrop at the foot of India has a cultural heritage dating back to ancient civilisations, coupled with luxurious beach resorts and people born with everlasting smiles. Side by side, you’ll discover misty tea fields, fragrant spice markets and the treasures of the Cultural Triangle, from the immense Sigiriya to the elaborate Temple of the Tooth.

Mo’orea & Bora Bora
A collection of 118 islands and atolls scattered across a vast ocean, French Polynesia will fill your honeymoon with pure white beaches, green rainforests, sparkling waterfalls and fascinating wildlife. From the uber-luxury resorts and scuba diving of Bora Bora to the stunning volcanic landscape of lesser-known Mo’orea, each island has its unique charms.

South Africa & Mauritius
By combining South Africa and Mauritius, you’re ensured an epic honeymoon. As well as dramatic wildlife encounters and the balmy waters of the Indian Ocean, your trip could include the fine vintages of the winelands, the history of KwaZulu-Natal and the colourful culture of Cape Town. Take an afternoon cable car ride up Table Mountain to drink in one of the world’s best sunsets.

Oman
Centuries old desert culture, a star-strewn sky and endless white sand – Oman seems designed for a romantic escape. We recommend indulging in a bespoke desert safari trip just for the two of you. Driving to Bani Khalid, one of the most dramatic wadis in the country, you can enjoy a picnic in the shade of the cliffs and try your hand at sand boarding and off-road driving.

The Caribbean
When you consider its turquoise waters, volcanic landscapes, super luxurious hotels and laidback culture, it’s no wonder the Caribbean continues to capture the hearts of honeymooners. For a Robinson Crusoe experience, Rosewood Little Dix Bay in the British Virgin Islands can arrange a water taxi to one of the many empty beaches where you can snorkel and enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch.

Brazil
From the depths of the rainforest to the sizzling streets of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is the ultimate honeymoon destination for intrepid travellers. Whether you’re flying over the roaring cascades of Iguazu Falls or soaking up the view from the very top of Sugar Loaf Mountain, Brazil presents you with a lifetime of unmissable experiences.

Laos, Cambodia & Thailand
Stunning beaches, atmospheric ruins, fascinating cultures and unforgettable hotels make each of these destinations the dream honeymoon getaways. You could spend your entire honeymoon exploring just one, but why not combine the three and take in the spiritual heartland of Luang Prabang and the jungle-cloaked ruins of Angkor Wat – before ending in gorgeous, palm-fringed Thailand.

Southern India
Experience a feast for all the senses – sights, colours, fragrances, tastes and sounds – all at the slow tempo of Southern India. Spend your days sampling exquisite dishes cooked in aromatic spices, discovering classic tea plantations and drifting, leisurely, along Kerala’s enchanting backwaters past little-seen villages and fishing boats.
