BUILT ON THE WILD SIERRAS
Sacromonte is a boutique hotel located in the Sierra de Carapé, less than an hour from José Ignacio. Created by Edmond Borit in 2014, the hotel integrates three of his passions; wine, architecture and nature and offers its guests a unique setting to experience all three.
Guests stay in one of the four ’shelters’ which are nestled in the hills and overlook the hotel’s own vineyards and natural pools. The standalone shelters are fronted with floor to ceiling reflective glass and are designed to blend in with the environment, whilst offering panoramic views and complete privacy. Inspired by the Danish concept of hygge, a cosy interior has been created, with dark slate floors complementing the light wooden walls.
Contemporary furniture, natural textiles and a log burning stove complete the experience. Each shelter has an en-suite bathroom with rainfall shower, a lounge and dining area plus a small kitchenette. There is an outside decking and sitting space too, with a private unheated plunge pool.
Guests are invited to explore the properties grounds, where unusual architecture continues to be seen in the shape of an A-frame chapel and a series of giant kaleidoscopes, reflecting the surrounding nature. Sheep’s graze in the grounds, which are home to gentle streams and natural pools – a refreshing place to cool off once you have finished exploring.
At sunset there is a spectacular view from the top of one of the hills, which can be reached on foot or you can take one of the electric buggies most of the way (all guests are given their own buggy when they first arrive).
A light breakfast is served in the main building, but most meals are eaten in the privacy of your own cabin and are setup by the hotel staff. For larger groups there is an al-fresco dining area on the hillside, where specialities like freshly cooked lamb, baked focaccia and vegetables from the hotel’s own gardens are served around an impressive 12m long table.
The vineyard is at the heart of Sacromonte and since the first harvest in 2017, the steep slopes, orientation of the vines and Edmond’s decision to selectively import vines from France, has allowed him to produce some exceptional wines, all of which can be tried during your stay.
