ABOUT THE ITINERARY
Your voyage starts at Victoria Falls which, during the wet season, sees over 5 million cubic metres of water rush over the lip of a narrow ravine every minute. Mana Pools will present your camera with an entirely different, though similarly impressive, display. Fed by the waters of the mighty Zambezi River, this unspoilt wilderness paradise is as wild and picturesque a place as any you will find.
Matusadona National Park, one of the lesser-known but most scenically pleasing game areas, is the finale to your Zimbabwe Experience. It sits on the shores of Lake Kariba – the world’s largest artificial lake – and is home to an abundance of elephants, an impressive lion population and plethora of birds. Early morning walks, boat cruises and photography focused game drives are just a few of the activities you can enjoy whilst here.
DESIGNED BY SPECIALISTS
Bear in mind, these are just a starting point as all holidays are customised to the specific requirements of our guests. Whether you prefer a different style of accommodation, a greater focus on a particular interest or to go to a different destination all together, every itinerary is created individually around your preferences.
VICTORIA FALLS
Landing at Victoria Falls Airport, you’ll be warmly met and taken to your lodge on the banks of the Zambezi – just upstream from the iconic Victoria Falls.
Enjoy a guided tour of this astonishing sight with its incredible succession of waterfalls dropping dramatically into a 100m gorge. David Livingstone, who came upon the falls back in 1885, exclaimed that ‘scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by Angels in their flight’. As well as marvelling at the falls – which you can do from a helicopter – you can enjoy a wide range of fun activities in the surrounding area including fishing, canoeing, zip-lining and bungee-jumping.
Stay: Three nights in a luxury tented suite at Old Drift Lodge – full board
KANGA CAMP, MANA POOLS NATIONAL PARK
Today you set off to explore the largest game reserve in Zimbabwe. Hwange is diverse in both habitat and wildlife, and boasts one of the densest concentrations of game in Africa, which includes staggering numbers of Cape buffalo and elephant. Game drives led by knowledgeable guides will also show you big cats like leopards, African wildcats and lions, as well as diverse species like mongoose, honey badgers, jackals, bat-eared foxes, vervet monkeys, baboons, aardwolf, and spotted hyena. But you don’t have to go far for wildlife encounters – your camp overlooks a natural waterhole where herds of game congregate to drink.
Stay: Three nights in a double tent at Somalisa – full board
ZAMBEZI EXPEDITIONS, MANA POOLS NATIONAL PARK
Staying in Mana Pools, today you will leave Kanga Camp behind and make a game drive transfer to its sister property, Zambezi Expeditions. This area of the park is pristine, undeveloped and incredibly diverse, allowing for a more private safari experience. Buffalo, lion, African wild dog, leopard, hippo, elephant, crocodile and cheetah can all be sighted, but you should also watch out for birds like the collared palm-thrush, racket-tailed roller and purple-banded sunbird.
At your colonial-style mobile camp on the edge of the Zambezi River you’ll have the opportunity for canoeing and fishing excursions in addition to sensational 4×4 game drives along the flood plain. You’ll be led throughout by qualified and experienced guides whose intimate knowledge of the bush will enrich your own experience of it.
Stay: Two nights in a double tent at Zambezi Expeditions – full board
MATUSADONA NATIONAL PARK
Today you will take a light aircraft to Matusadona National Park on the shores of the world’s largest man-made lake. Earning national park status in 1975, Matusadona boasts an impressive concentration of game which includes the endangered black rhino, an abundance of elephants and a healthy lion population. The park also attracts over 400 bird species, including the majestic African fish eagle, kingfishers, storks and herons. Activities focus on boat trips on Lake Kariba as well as 4×4 game drives. Fishing and bush walks can also be arranged.
From your luxury lodge you’ll have a stunning lake view, and can spend your evenings relaxing around a fire pit on a white-sanded beach just steps from the main deck.
Stay: Three nights in a double tent at Changa Safari Camp – full board
