DISCOVER KIBALE FOREST NATIONAL PARK

PRIMATE SANCTUARY

Set within verdant rainforest and surrounded by a wave of rolling green hills, the Kibale Forest National Park is a real wildlife gem. With more primate species than any other region in East Africa, this is also one of the best places to view chimpanzees in the wild.

Sharing a border with the Queen Elizabeth National Park, Kibale encompasses over 750 square kilometres of land in western Uganda. Much of this is covered in tropical and evergreen forests, which is the perfect habitat for the 13 different species of primate that live here.

L’Hoest’s monkeys, colobus and red monkeys are all present, but it is the resident chimpanzees that draw visitors to this part of Uganda. Tracking these playful primates as they swing through the canopy above is a joy and a must-try experience for any wildlife lover. Why not go one step further and enjoy a chimpanzee habituation experience to get a unique insight into the daily life of Kibale’s chimpanzees.

If you’re lucky you might even spot a lion or leopard as you explore the park, with forest elephant and buffalo sightings also recorded. On top of this Kibale is fantastic destination for bird watchers, with over 300 recorded species to discover including a host of Albertine Rift endemics.
