ABOUT THE ITINERARY
This Ultimate Uganda itinerary will take you on an unforgettable journey through this spectacular country. You’ll discover the chimpanzee rich forests of Kibale and the forgotten wilderness of Kidepo, but nothing quite compares to the experience of tracking mountain gorillas through the impenetrable vegetation of Bwindi Forest, one of its last remaining refuges.
Gorilla trekking can make for tough walking, but the rewards of getting to within touching distance of these endangered creatures, who share 97.7% of our DNA, will last forever.
DESIGNED BY SPECIALISTS
Bear in mind, these are just a starting point as all holidays are customised to the specific requirements of our guests. Whether you prefer a different style of accommodation, a greater focus on a particular interest or to go to a different destination all together, every itinerary is created individually around your preferences.
KIBALE FOREST
After landing in Entebbe, you’ll catch a scheduled flight to Kasese where you’ll be met and transferred to your comfortable lodge on the banks of beautiful Lake Kyaninga. The dense, verdant rainforest of Kibale National Park – Africa’s leading chimpanzee trekking destination – are less than an hour away. The park supports 13 different species of primate including the rare red colobus, olive baboon, blue monkey and L’Hoest monkey.
Kibale also boasts the highest density of chimpanzees in the world, making it the best place to observe them in the wild. Trekking deep into the enchanting evergreen forest you will have the opportunity to come face to face with these playful primates as they crash through the high canopy. The forest is also home to hundreds of birds in addition to leopards, rare forest elephants, buffalo, antelope and the giant forest hog.
Stay: Three nights at Kyaninga Lodge – full board
BWINDI IMPENETRABLE FOREST
Your next light aircraft flight lands in Kisoro. You’ll be driven to your lodge in the shadow of three volcanoes on the edge of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Looking down into the treetops and across the golden Western Rift Valley, the views are simply outstanding.
Cloud’s Lodge was built in partnership with the local community and several foundations with the goal of protecting the habitat of the endangered mountain gorilla. Bwindi’s ancient forests are one of the last remaining refuges of these magnificent creatures. Walking up steep, densely forested hills, you’ll be able to observe these rare primates at a close distance on thrilling gorilla trekking excursions. Other activities include visits to the local community, walks in the forest reserve and mountain biking.
Stay: Three nights at Clouds Lodge – full board
KIDEPO NATIONAL PARK
Isolated Kidepo National Park is the final stop on your Ultimate Uganda itinerary. Made up of golden savannah, imposing mountains and rocky valleys in northeast Uganda, Kidepo is one of the most picturesque parks in the country.
Thanks to its remote location Kidepo promises a truly private safari experience. Both bush walks and game drives are on offer and provide encounters with large numbers of elephant, buffalo, giraffe, lion and hyena. The park also supports more unusual species like the bat-eared fox, caracal and aardwolf, plus over 440 species of bird. Private bush dinners and picnics are on the menu, as well as visits to the local village. Otherwise, you can kick back by the pool and watch animals drink from the waterhole below.
