SEA OF SAVANNAH
Known by the Maasai as the ‘endless plains’, the Serengeti offers some of Tanzania’s finest safari opportunities. Witness huge numbers of predators, plains game in their thousands and the breath-taking Great Migration all in a classic savannah landscape.
The Serengeti National Park encompasses a sea of savannah, flat grassland plains, woodlands and riverine forests just under 15,000 sq.km. The park offers fantastic game viewing throughout the year, with all the Big Five present as well as an impressive bird population and the largest concentration of plains game on the continent.
The park is best known as the location for the Great Migration – the epic journey of over a million wildebeest and over 200,000 zebras as they migrate toward Kenya’s Masai Mara in search of fresh grazing. Guided by the path of the rains, the herds travel along a 500 km route with perilous river crossings and battles with predators along the way. Few things compare to the thrill of witnessing the migration first hand, and as the herds move across the park our experts can advise on the best spots for sightings.
Most of the accommodation is located in Seronera, a scenic patch of plains and hills at the heart of the park. The wildlife in this area tend to be more relaxed around vehicles, which allows for exceptional sightings and wildlife photography.
Whether you want to track the Great Migration or encounter the Big Five away from the crowds, our experts can put together a luxury, tailor-made safari experience in the Serengeti that’s right for you.
