INCREDIBLE BIG GAME VIEWING
Known as the ‘Land of Dry Water’, Etosha was established back in 1907 and has grown to become one of the finest parks in Africa. Supporting a stunning cast of wildlife, Etosha is the place to go in Namibia for incredible big game viewing.
Stretching for over 20,000 square kilometres, the Etosha National Park is one of the largest parks in the continent. Exploring this game-rich savannah will bring you encounters with lion, leopard and elephant, as well as nearly 400 different bird varieties, over 110 reptiles and plenty of plains game. The rare black rhino can also be found here, as well as more unusual species like the black-faced impala and Damara dik-dik. The dry, desert-like climate means wildlife is constantly drawn to the park’s permanent waterholes making for some spectacular sightings.
Etosha’s defining feature is the Etosha salt pan that covers almost a quarter of the park. This glimmering white expanse is dry for much of the year, but come the rainy season the pan fills with water to become a shallow lagoon frequented by pelicans and flamingos.
If you prefer to go at your own pace, self-driving is a fantastic way to explore the park, with good roads and plenty of sign posts. Alternatively, you can choose to stay in one of the private game reserves or lodges where you can enjoy excursions led by an expert guide.
