SPECTACULAR WILDLIFE AND SCENIC BEAUTY
With plains traversed by wildebeest, lions, hyena and big-tusked elephants, a safari in Amboseli is truly spectacular. As well as plentiful wildlife, the scenic beauty makes it one of Kenya’s prettiest parks, with vast open savannahs and a skyline dominated by the mighty Kilimanjaro.
A short hop from Nairobi, Amboseli is a superb safari destination offering exceptional wildlife viewing in an enchanting location. The 40,000-hectare park is largely dry, but peppered with a handful of permanent swamps and lakes that attract animals from all over the park.
The wildlife of Amboseli is both diverse and abundant. Herds of wildebeest, zebra, gazelle and Masai giraffes can be seen traversing the plains, whilst big cats lounge in the shade or stalk their prey. You might even spot the rare gerenuk or oryx on your game drives. Bird watching is very rewarding, with a variety of beautiful water birds and unique varieties to check off your list.
The stars of the show, however, are undoubtedly the African elephants, made famous by the work of Dr. Cynthina Moss who has been studying Amboseli’s large herds of elephants since 1972. With numbers in excess of 1,400, Amboseli is considered the best place in Africa to get up close to these gentle giants.
We recommend staying on one of the private conservancies within the park, as they offer the same great wildlife viewing opportunities without the crowds. Highly trained and qualified guides will lead excursions and share their vast knowledge of the bush with you.
